Company History
Enjoi Resorts opened for business in spring of 2022, but the company itself was decades in the making.
S.M. Johnston and his wife Patricia lived in Conway, SC outside of Myrtle Beach, and S.M. was a manager at the Sealtest Dairy. He decided in the early 1960’s that he would try his hand in the hotel business in Myrtle Beach, which was beginning to take off as a vacation destination for travelers along the east coast. Mr. Johnston purchased the 48 room Waikiki Village Motel in 1963 and he and Mrs. Johnston moved in to be the on-site managers. After gaining success after approximately 10 years, Mr. Johnston then took his next big step – he built Captain’s Quarters, his first direct oceanfront project with nine stories and approximately 150 units. From there, Mr. Johnston’s career in the Myrtle Beach resort world took off, and he would be the leader in shaping Myrtle Beach into becoming the tourism destination that it is today. After adding a number of additional resorts to his portfolio, Mr. Johnston brought his nephew, Craig Conrad on board to lead several of the resorts, and he would also partner with local businessman Jim Creel in 1989 to acquire The Caravelle Resort. The group of local families would continue to work together for 20 more years, before finally creating the Vacation Myrtle Beach resort group, a collection of 13 properties at the time. The group would then acquire Crown Reef Resort in 2013 as the 14th resort in the collection. In 2022, the group ventured in the vacation ownership business, launching Enjoi Resorts, the new standard in vacation ownership excellence in Myrtle Beach.
